PE
At High Ash, we believe physical activity is essential for children’s healthy development, emotional wellbeing, and academic success. PE and sport help pupils grow stronger, manage stress, focus better, and build positive relationships. Through lessons, children develop physical skills and fitness, learn to compete fairly and co-operate with others, value creativity and skilled performance and understand both teamwork and individual responsibility.
We deliver a high-quality, broad and balanced PE curriculum that meets National Curriculum requirements and inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in a wide range of physical activities. Our approach, using the PE Planning scheme, ensures:
-
Every child has the opportunity to become physically confident, supporting their health and fitness in and out of school.
-
All pupils can swim at least 25m and understand basic water safety before leaving primary school.
-
High-energy lessons build fitness and resilience.
-
Activities are adapted so all children, including those with additional needs, can participate fully.
-
Opportunities to compete in sport and physical activities develop character and promote values such as fairness, respect, leadership, cooperation, and tolerance.
Children receive two PE lessons each week – one taught by a specialist PE coach and one by their class teacher. Both follow carefully planned units from PE Planning, with resources prepared in advance to maximise learning time. Beyond lessons, pupils take part in sports days, clubs, and inter-school competitions, helping them to build skills, confidence, and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
