At High Ash, we aim to inspire a lifelong interest in history, helping pupils to understand their place in the world and appreciate how the past shapes the present. Our learners leave each topic with a deeper sense of identity, community, and global awareness.

Our History approach provides a comprehensive and carefully sequenced history curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum and supports children in becoming curious, critical thinkers. It enables our teachers to deliver engaging lessons that bring the past to life, using a range of high-quality resources, videos, and activities.

Our Approach:

  • Chronological Understanding
Pupils build a secure chronological framework from the Stone Age to the present day, developing an understanding of how key periods and events fit together.

  • Historical Enquiry and Interpretation
Our lessons encourage pupils to ask questions, examine evidence, and think like historians. They learn how to interpret a range of sources and consider different perspectives of the past.

  • Cross-Curricular Links
History lessons are enriched with links to art, geography, literacy, and computing, deepening pupils’ understanding and supporting retention.

  • Inclusive and Engaging
Lessons are designed to be accessible to all learners, with scaffolding and challenge built in. Activities vary in format to support different learning styles, ensuring every child can connect with history.

  • Progression and Consistency
Our curriculum ensures clear progression across year groups, building on prior knowledge and skills. It gives teachers the confidence and clarity to deliver consistently high-quality history teaching.
