REmote learning

Occasionally, there may be unforeseen circumstances such as severe weather conditions, power failures, or lack of water, which mean the school may need to close to ensure the safety of our pupils and staff.  Where possible, announcements will be made before the start of the school day, but this is not always possible.

How to Find Out If School is Closed

We will communicate about any school closures through the following official channels:

  • Email and text message through MCAS: please ensure your contact information is up-to-date with the school to receive messages about closures.
  • School Website: check our website regularly for the most up-to-date information.
  • Social Media: follow the school’s Facebook account
  • Buckinghamshire Council School Closures website: check if your school is closed.

Remote Learning Procedures - short term

There is no expectation for teachers to deliver live lessons during short-term severe weather closures of one or two days.  Work will be set for the day and will include activities related to the current topic as well as maths and English tasks appropriate to the age group.  The work will be sent home via Google Classroom for the older year groups or via email to parents for younger years.

Remote Learning Procedures - long term

Where a closure is anticipated to be longer than two days, or where the closure is planned, the remote education plan below will be followed.

  • Students will be set work for their timetabled lessons and this will be disseminated through Google Classroom or in a secure area of the school’s website.
  • The work provided will be high-quality and meaningful and cover an appropriate range of subjects reflective of what pupils would normally receive in school.
  • There will be a mix of live lessons using Google Meet, recorded lessons, and time for pupils to work independently.
  • A timetable will be provided for the week and work will be set in advance, so parents are able to plan ahead to support children as necessary.
  • Teachers will plan opportunities for regular feedback if the period of remote learning is extensive.
  • Digital access should not be a barrier to learning.  We will look to loan school-owned devices, provide alternative methods of learning, or deliver paper copies of materials to pupils as required if the remote learning is prolonged.
  • Support will be put in place to ensure our SEN pupils continue to learn effectively.
